2009 EWC Metrics survey

The results will enable you to discover the position of your EWC in the EWC Metrics model we’ve created and to compare this to the rest of the industry.

The 2009 survey will indicate how many EWCs are going for compliance or beyond and whether the EWC adds to the values of the company as a strategic communications platform.

This survey could be the starting point for future EWC trainings, to make sure that they hit the mark.

2008 Survey on the Revision of the EWC Directive

On 11 April, The European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) decided to refuse the invitation from the European Commission to enter into a social dialogue with Business Europe for a new Framework EWC Directive.

The European Commission is now expected to propose legislation in late June based on the second consultation document from the Commission.  This legislative proposal will likely have the support of the French government, which assumes the EU Presidency in June.

Data on the operation of European Works Councils in the reality of global business challenges is now even more pressing in order to counter some of the negative publications of the ETUC regarding a minority of cases where EWCs are not operating to the satisfaction of the parties involved.

To assist in this effort, Presence, Planet Labour, the Vergote Group, ORC, Clark Herman Associates and ESG (all informal networks including companies with EWCs), are now launching a major survey to collect such data.

European Works Council Survey 2007

Online survey assessing management’s view on the value of European Works Councils.
Compare your EWC to the rest of the industry and get expert feedback on the results of the survey during our next EWC roundtable discussion on November 29th in Brussels

All participants to the survey who can not attend the seminar will get an executive summary of the results via e-mail.

EWC Survey 2006 - EWCs in practice

The 2006 EWC benchmarking scan results show an increase in the quantitative aspects of EWCs while the qualitative aspects remain relatively unchanged. The barriers such as languages and the lack of an “active attitude of the EWC members to actively play the role” remain unchanged. Companies participating in the EWC Benchmarking scan represent 16 industry sectors and the average size of the participating companies was between 10.000 – 50.000 employees.

European Works Councils (EWC) in 2006 have compared to 2003
  • More employee representatives
  • More EWC meetings per year
  • More days used for EWC meeting
  • More Select Committees
  • More Select Committee meetings
  • ...
