Introducing the newest members of the Presence #dreamteam
James Cash Penney, American entrepreneur and founder of the J.C. Penney stores, famously said : “Growth is never by mere chance, it is the result of forces working together”. This has proven to be true for us at Presence. Thanks to a combination of strategic decisions and the enthusiasm of our dream team, we were able to realise further growth in the past year. And with the increase of activity, comes a new round of recruitment. This year, we are adding some girl power to the Presence mix. We are proud to present our two new recruits: Astrid De Leeuw, Presence’s brand new Reputation Manager; and Lucy Mensah, our new Project Manager at the Maastricht office. We held a back-to-back interview with them.
Can you tell us a bit more about your background?
Astrid: I graduated as a bachelor in Marketing and obtained my master’s degree in Communications. I have a pretty simple kind of life with my husband Steven and my 3-year-old, Sam. I finish every day with a nice glass of wine and an episode of Home and Away, like every diehard fan presumably does #guiltypleasure
Lucy: I was born in the Netherlands to Dutch and Ghanaian parents. I moved to Belgium when I was 8 years old and have lived here ever since. I have recently obtained a bachelor's degree in Office Management - Business Translation at UC Leuven. I am a creative and musical person. I play the piano and I would like to write my own songs one day. My most prized possession is my Harry Potter book collection. Shout out to all fellow #Gryffindors out there.
What is your role in the Presence organisation?
Lucy: I will be joining the Project Management team in Maastricht. I am very excited to start working alongside Kelly Roebroeks and Juanita Helsloot, the Project Managers who are currently based in the Maastricht office. They have done their utmost to make me feel welcome.
Astrid: I will be taking up the role of Reputation Manager. I get to build, protect and preserve Presence’s brand and reputation. I will draft a coherent marketing and communications plan that the whole team can use as a guideline throughout their day-to-day activities.
What makes you want to work at Presence?
Astrid: Combining my passion for marketing and communications in an international organisation feels like a win-win situation. I am sure that I will learn a lot, exploring new markets with an experienced team. I really look forward to this new adventure and I am sure that I will have a lot to contribute to our team’s work.
Lucy: During my internship, I realised that I prefer the management aspects of my degree, but that I still want languages to be part of my professional activities. I like project management because every project is different and every client has different demands, which keeps things interesting. Moreover, working with Presence’s international customer base will allow me to develop my language skills further. The team spirit at Presence really drew me in as well. After meeting some of the employees, I could tell that Presence has a very strong team and that people see each other as friends, not just colleagues. That is very important to me.
